Bulldogs Finish Seventh In Colonial Collegiate Invitational

October 05, 2021 | Men's Golf

FORT WORTH, Texas --- Junior Nicolas Cassidy recorded the first top-10 effort of his career to highlight the showing of the Georgia men's golf team Tuesday in the Colonial Collegiate Invitational.

Cassidy, a junior, came in seventh as he fired a final-round 1-under 69 and landed at 1-under 209 on Colonial Country Club's par-70, 7,204-yard layout. Cassidy finished 10 shots behind Michael Brennan of Wake Forest. Cassidy's previous best was a 14th-place showing earlier this season in The Carmel Cup.

As a team, the No. 13-ranked Bulldogs placed seventh at 18-over 858, including a final-round 4-over 284. Team honors went to Stanford at 3-under 837.

Senior Trent Phillips followed Cassidy on Tuesday with an even-par 70. Junior Ben van Wyk added a 2-over 72 and freshman Maxwell Ford signed for a 3-over 73. Freshman Buck Brumlow had the Bulldogs' non-counting score of 5-over 75.

Phillips wound up at 6-over 216, followed by Brumlow at 9-over 219, and Ford and van Wyk both at 12-over 222.

Georgia will return to action Sunday through Tuesday in the SEC Match Play Championship at Shoal Creek Club in Birmingham, Ala. The Bulldogs will wrap up the fall portion of the schedule Oct. 25-26 in the Eagle Point Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C.
