QUICK KICKS
Series History
Sunday's match is the 28th all-time meeting between Georgia and Tennessee, with the Volunteers leading the series, 17-9-1. Tennessee holds an 11-1 advantage in matches played in Knoxville. In the most recent meeting, the Bulldogs prevailed, 1-0, on Oct. 2, 2020, in Athens.
Murguia and Belisle Step Up in Thriller
Georgia remained in contention for its first-ever SEC East title with a dramatic 4-3 win over Florida on Thursday. After building a 3-0 lead, the Bulldogs surrendered three second-half goals and lost senior defender Cecily Stoute to a red card. In the 85th minute, Belisle headed in a beautiful cross from Murguia to give the Bulldogs just their fourth-ever win over the Gators. With five points, Murguia posted her second such outing of the season and became the first Bulldog to have five points in an SEC match since Alexa Newfield against Mississippi State in 2011.
East Division Battle on Rocky Top
With only two matches remaining in the regular season, Sunday's match is critical for both Georgia and Tennessee. Georgia is currently tied for first in the East with 10 points, while Tennessee sits just one point back at nine. In the overall standings, the Bulldogs sit in sixth place, which would earn their first SEC Tournament (10-team format) bye since 2013. Following this match, Georgia will close at home against Vanderbilt, while Tennessee will take on last-place Kentucky.
Belisle's Career Year
Graduate forward Mollie Belisle continued her outstanding season with a four-point effort against Florida. Currently, Belisle is ranked first nationally with 15 goals and fourth in points with 33. With her current single-season totals, Belisle ranks fourth in school history in goals (15), third in shots (77), and fourth in points (33). She is also only the fourth player in program history to post five multi-goal performances in a season, having already tallied five. With four goals in the final matches, Belisle would set single-season records in both goals and points.
Murguia Nearing History
With an assist against Florida, senior midfielder Dani Murguia upped her season total to 11, ranking her fifth nationally. She is only third Bulldog to ever post double-digit assists in a season and is tied for Suzannah Weathersbee's single-season record in 1996. Additionally, with one more point, Murguia will join Mollie Belisle as the first Georgia teammates to both post 30 points in a single season.
Stoute Sits Out
After being issued a red card in the 64th minute of Thursday's match, senior defender Cecily Stoute will not be available for Tennessee. Stoute has played and started in 66 games, with only one previous absence in her career.
Winning Season Sealed
With the Kentucky victory, Georgia reached double-digit wins for the first time in head coach Billy Lesesne's tenure, as well as guaranteed a .500+ season for the second time in three years. This season's 11 wins are the most for Georgia since 2013, when the Bulldogs finished 12-7-1.
Nation's Top Trio
Powered by one of the nation's top scorers, the trio of graduate forward Mollie Belisle (15), senior midfielder Dani Murguia (9), and freshman forward Danielle Lewin (7) rank first nationally among trios with 31 total goals, one ahead of second-place BYU (29).
Ranking Report
Following last week's draw at South Carolina, Georgia remained at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Southeast Region rankings for the third-consecutive week, while not receiving any votes for the national poll. The Bulldogs rose to No. 47 in the newest RPI rankings, making them the sixth-highest ranked SEC squad.
