Bulldogs Set to Begin Conference Competition

The Bulldogs will come into Saturday's match with a 5-2 record coming off of a three-week hiatus after traveling to Chicago, Ill. for the ITA National Indoor Tournament where the team went 1-2 in tournament play. Georgia defeated No. 11 Virginia in the opening round 4-1 but fell to No. 5 Duke 4-2 and No. 8 N.C. State 4-1.
In the most recent individual rankings, three Bulldogs saw upward movement. Senior Marta Gonzlaez improved from No. 90 to No. 86, junior Katarina Jokic jumped from No. 41 to No. 27 and sophomore Meg Kowalski went from No. 56 to No. 52, the highest ranking of her career. Junior Morgan Coppoc went from a ranking of 83 to 104 and Freshman Lea Ma went from No. 19 to No. 34. In doubles, the duo of Jokic and Anna Hertel improved from No. 42 to No. 31 and the duo of Kowalski and Coppoc went from No. 48 to No. 52.
Tennessee comes to Athens with an overall record of 9-1 and a six match winning streak. Their most recent wins came in a double header against Cincinnati and UT Chattanooga where they swept both matches 5-0 and 4-1, respectively. The Lady Vols have four players ranked in singles with Rebeka Martena leading the way at No. 40. In doubles, Tennessee only has one ranked pair in Tenika McGiffin and Kaitlin Staines at No. 8. Georgia leads the all time series against the Lady Vols 47-9 with Tennessee not getting a win over Georgia since 2011.
Georgia will hit the road following the match to take on No. 24 Ole Miss on March 6 at 3 p.m. and then head to Starkville, Miss. to face off against Mississippi State on Mach 8 at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs will return to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on March 13 for a match against Florida at 4 p.m.
