January 31, 2020 | Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. – In the final tune-up before the championship season, University of Georgia swimming and diving closes its dual schedule Saturday morning against DIII power Emory at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The meet will be aired live on SEC Network + beginning at 11 a.m., while admission is free for all fans with the first 150 receiving free T-shirts. Live results will also be available on GeorgiaDogs.com and to subscribers on the MeetMobile app.

Prior to Saturday's meet, the 17 members of Georgia's 2020 senior class will be honored in a special ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The Lady Bulldogs' honorees include McKensi Austin, Veronica Burchill, Mary Claire Cardwell, Sofia Carnevale, Lexi Glunn, Jordyn Gulle, Freida Lim, Meryn McCann, Katherine Parker, Sandra Scott and Jordan Stout. The recognized Bulldogs include Charlie Clifton, Jackson Ford, Clayton Forde, Walker Higgins, Josh Horne and Kevin Miller.

For the eighth-ranked Georgia men (5-1), Saturday's meet is the 51st all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Eagles, with Georgia holding a 41-9 advantage. For the No. 9 Lady Bulldogs (4-2), this is the 27th meeting with Georgia winning all previous matchups. In last season's meeting on Feb. 2 in Athens, the Bulldogs swept both meets by margins of 166.5-117.5 (M) and 167-93 (W) respectively. Entering the meet, the Eagles are ranked second in the DIII women's rankings and third in the men.

Last Saturday, the Bulldog men continued their impressive season with a 176.5-122.5 victory over No. 12 Tennessee, giving them their third SEC victory of the season. Juniors Greg Reed, Camden Murphy and Zach Allen each posted two wins, including a season-best time by Reed in the 1000 freestyle.

Higgins also turned in his top time of the season, 1:35.38, in winning the 200 free, while sophomore Andrew Abruzzo notched three top-two finishes. With a win in the 200 backstroke and runner-up finish in the 100 back, freshman Ian Grum earned his second SEC Men's Freshman of the Week honor this season.

On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs will look to rebound from a 199-101 loss to No. 4 Tennessee last weekend. Against a tough Lady Volunteers squad, the Lady Bulldogs still picked up a pair of wins from junior Danielle Della Torre in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.04) and sophomore Callie Dickinson in the 200 butterfly (1:56.37). Freshman Zoie Hartman finished second in three individual events, while junior Courtney Harnish was a runner-up in two.

With one meet remaining before the SEC Championships in Auburn, Georgia has amassed an impressive 16 top-10 national times. Hartman's school record time in the 100 breast sits first, along with the No. 2 200 breast and No. 3 200 IM times.

Sophomore Dakota Luther ranks second in the 200 fly, followed by Harnish in third, who also ranks fourth in the 500 free. Three Lady Bulldogs are ranked seventh: Della Torre in the 100 breast, Burchill in the 100 free and junior Olivia Anderson in the mile, while the 400 medley relay stands fourth.

In the men's standings, Murphy (100 butterfly) and Forde (400 IM) both rank fourth, while Higgins is sixth in the 500 free and Abruzzo is 10th in the 1000 free. In relay, Higgins anchored the 10th-ranked 800 free relay.

Following Saturday's meet, the Bulldogs will turn their attention toward the conference championships, which open on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 22. The team will return to Gabrielsen for the two-day Bulldog Invitational Last Chance meet on Feb. 29-March 1.
