Tawana McDonald Robinson Named SEC Legend
January 15, 2020 | Women's Basketball
ATHENS, Ga. — Tawana McDonald Robinson, who played for the Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball team from 1998-2002, has been named a 2020 Southeastern Conference Legend, the league office announced earlier this week.
McDonald Robinson will be honored during the Lady Bulldogs' first game at this year's SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C. The tournament runs from March 4-8, 2020 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
A native of Flint, Mich., McDonald Robinson was one of the premier post players in the nation during her time in Athens. She still owns the Georgia career record and ranks among the top-10 in SEC history with 297 blocked shots after leading the conference in that category in three-straight seasons.
During the 1999-00 campaign, she was a first-team selection on the five-player Associated Press All-SEC squad. She scored 1,225 points and brought down 885 rebounds in her career — totals that still rank among the best in Georgia history.
McDonald Robinson helped the Lady Bulldogs earn a trip to the 1999 NCAA Final Four, win the 2000 SEC regular season crown and claim the 2001 SEC Tournament Championship.
In 2002, McDonald Robinson was drafted by the Indiana Fever with the 13th overall pick in the WNBA Draft.
Each SEC legend will be honored during halftime of their team's first game of the tournament. All 14 individuals will also be honored as a group, as well as participate in an autograph session during the tournament. Complimentary posters of the Legends will be available at each session.
