PORTLAND, Ore. — The Georgia women's golf team posted 9-over 297s in both the first and second rounds of the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Monday, placing the Bulldogs in third on the team leaderboard at Waverley Country Club.
Stanford is atop the team field after shooting 3-over 579, followed by Oregon at 585 and Georgia at 594. The Bulldogs will be paired with the Cardinal and and the Ducks for Tuesday's final, teeing off from noon-12:40 p.m. ET. Live scoring is available via www.golfstat.com.
"We're a little back, but at the same time tomorrow is a great learning chance for us just to see one of the premier programs up close," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We'll see how we handle the pressure of playing in the final pairing. We've come all the way to West Coast and are playing against a good number of PAC 12 teams. We have a chance to beat some of the better teams in the PAC 12 on their turf tomorrow, which would be a very solid early-season performance for us."
Freshman Caroline Craig leads Georgia at even-par 144 tally over 36 holes, a shot better than classmate Caterina Don. Overall, Craig is third, four shots off the individual lead, and Don is tied for fourth.
Céleste Dao, yet another Bulldog freshman, is tied for 22nd at 152, senior Gabriela Coello is tied for 27th at 153 and sophomore Jo Hua Hung is tied for 45th at 158.
Stanford's Andrea Lee is the individual leader at 4-under 140, a shot better than teammate Angelina Ye.
Georgia's opening round consisted of a 2-under 70 from Don, as well as a 74 from Dao, a 75 from Craig and a 78 from Coello.
After bogeying her first hole, No. 9, Don was 3-under during the rest of her loop. She had 14 pars and birdies on No. 14, No. 3 and No. 4.
Craig's 3-under 69 led Georgia in the afternoon, when the Bulldogs also counted a pair of 75s from Coello and Don and a 78 from Dao.
Craig began her rounds on No. 13. In the afternoon, she bogeyed No. 13 and No. 16 and was 2-over through four holes. She quickly got back to par with back-to-back birdies at No. 17 and No. 18 and the notched additional birdies at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 9 on the front side.
"Caterina got us off to a very good start this morning, and even Céleste's round was good considering how cold and damp it was," head coach Josh Brewer said. "They helped put us in a good position after the morning round. Caroline's round this afternoon shows you the depth we have. I can't remember the last time our '5' player in the lineup shot 69. That really shows how much firepower we have throughout our lineup."
In fourth-11th places on the team leaderboard are San Diego State at 597, Washington at 603, Colorado at 604, Oregon State at 607, UC Davis at 616, Cal at 622, Colorado State at 624 and Santa Clara at 632.
