No. 4 National Seed Bulldogs Open NCAA Regional With Mercer

ATHENS-----The No. 4 national seed Georgia Bulldogs open the NCAA Athens Regional Friday at 7:06 p.m. against Mercer in a sold out Foley Field. The game will be televised by the SEC Network and be available on the Georgia Bulldogs Sports Network
 
The Bulldogs (44-15)  will start junior right-hander Tony Locey (10-2, 2.68 ERA) while the Bears (35-27) will counter with junior left-hander Tanner Hall (8-5, 4.67 ERA). In his career, Locey is 19-8 with a 4.03 ERA. The opening game of the regional will feature Florida State (36-21) against Florida Atlantic (40-19) at 12:06 pm (ESPN3). The regional is double-elimination. Friday's winners play on Saturday at 7 p.m. while the losers face an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m.Sunday's games will be at noon and 6 p.m. If necessary, Monday's game is set for 4 p.m.
 
The Bulldogs will be making their 12thoverall appearance in an NCAA Regional including their sixth as a regional host. The Bulldogs have won four of five previous regionals in Athens, advancing in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2008 before falling short in the 2018 final against Duke. Georgia returns to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years for the first time since 2008-09. Georgia's Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin has led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national seeds for the first time in school history.
 
Offensively, Georgia is led by senior LJ Talley, junior Aaron Schunk and graduate John Cable. Schunk leads the team in batting at .336 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI plus has a team-high 12 saves to with a 1-2 mark and 2.49 ERA. On Thursday, it was announced he was among the five finalists the John Olerud Award, which goes to the nation's top two-way player by the College Baseball Foundation. Talley is batting .327-8-40 while Cable is hitting .314-7-45. Georgia is on pace to set a school record for fielding percentage at .981. Talley and shortstop Cam Shepherd were named to the SEC All-Defensive Team.

Foley Field Follows SEC's Clear Bag Policy
In order to enhance safety and expedite fan entry at Georgia athletic events, UGA follows the SEC's Clear Bag Policy at Foley Field and all other athletic facilities. Only one clear bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches (gallon size) per person is permitted. Fans are also allowed a small clutch purse not exceeding 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches. Also, Seat cushions/backs should be no bigger than 16 inches and have no arms or pockets.
