May 18, 2019 | Softball
MINNEAPOLIS – Saturday evening's softball game between the University of Georgia and Drake has been suspended in the top of the fifth with Georgia leading 4-2.
The game will resume Sunday at a time to be determined later from Minneapolis. The current situation has Georgia up to bat with runners on first and second, one out, and Tyler Armistead at the plate with an 0-0 count. The game was sent into a lightning delay then officially suspended at approximately 10:30 p.m. local time.
Georgia jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame on a two-run home run off the bat of Alysen Febrey, 2-0 Bulldogs in the opening frame.
Drake wasted no time responding in the bottom half of the inning. Back-to-back singles and a one-out walk loaded the bases. Back-to-back RBI singles plated the early tying runs to knot the game at 2-2 after one inning.
With runners on the corners, Jessica Morgan threaded a base hit through the left side to drive in Alyssa DiCarlo and retake a one-run lead in the top of the third, 3-2.
DiCarlo capitalized on a runners-on-the-corners situation with two out in the fourth, dropping a single into center, driving in Savana Sikes and lengthening the lead to two, 4-2.
The winner of the game will face #7 Minnesota Sunday in the Regional Final.
