Caliya Robinson Named First-Team All-SEC

March 05, 2019 | Women's Basketball

ATHENS, Ga. — Caliya Robinson, a senior forward on the Georgia Lady Bulldogs basketball team, has been named to both the 2019 Associated Press and Coaches All-Southeastern Conference First Teams and the All-SEC Defensive squad.

It marks the second-straight season the Marietta, Georgia native has earned All-SEC accolades, after she was selected as a second-team honoree in 2018. This is the third-straight year that Robinson has placed on the SEC's All-Defensive Team.

"What an honor for Caliya," head coach Joni Taylor said. "When you are considered one of the eight best players in the Southeastern Conference, that is a huge accomplishment. Caliya is someone who stayed in state and made a commitment to the University of Georgia, and I am so glad she did. Her progress over the last four years both on the court and away from the game of basketball has been absolutely remarkable. I am so proud of the lady she has become, and I look forward to watching her play this postseason and at the next level."

Robinson came into the 2018-19 season as the only returning player to rank in the top-20 of the SEC in points, rebounds, blocks and steals. She was named to numerous watch lists, including the Wooden Award, Katrina McClain Award and the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year list.

The 6-foot-3 forward has not disappointed in her final campaign in Athens. She enters the SEC tournament needing just nine blocks to break the Georgia school record (Tawana McDonald, 297) for career blocks. Robinson's 865 rebounds over the last four years ranks eighth in Georgia history as she became the first Georgia player since Angel Robinson to record 200 or more rebounds in three consecutive seasons.

This year, Robinson is Georgia's leading scorer (14.5 ppg) and rebounder (8.2 rpg). She has scored in double figures 21 times and has recorded nine double-doubles.

On Thursday, Robinson and the Lady Bulldogs play Arkansas in the second round of the SEC tournament at 6 p.m. in Greenville, South Carolina. The winner of that contest plays No. 2 seed South Carolina at 6 p.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals.
