Phoenix, Ariz. — Freshman Jenny Bae fired an even-par 72 to lead the Georgia women's golf team in an 11-over 299 team tally in Saturday's second round of the PING/ASU Invitational. Bae and the Bulldogs ascended 10 and two spots on the individual and team leaderboards, respectively, at the Papago Golf Course.
Bae is tied for 20th individually, while the Bulldogs are tied for 11th. Of the 10 teams ahead of Georgia, eight are currently ranked in the top-25.
"We look forward to the chance to finish strong tomorrow," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We played well late in the day today and made some birdies coming in. Hopefully, that momentum will carry over tomorrow. As their coach, I know that they're really close to putting it all together and making a statement. Hopefully, that will be tomorrow, but if it's not we'll aim for the Liz (Murphey), SECs and the rest of the postseason."
The Bulldogs also counted a 74 from freshman Jo-Hua Hung, a 75 from freshman Harmie Constantino and a 78 from senior Rinko Mitsunaga.
Overall, Hung is tied for 31st at 148, Constantino is 57th at 152, Mitsunaga is tied for 62nd at 154 and Kelsey Kurnett is tied for 80th at 161. Gabriele Coello, who is competing as an individual, shot 78 on Saturday and is tied for 62nd at 154.
The Bulldogs teed off from No. 10 and played the back half of the course first on Saturday. Bae was steady over his first nine holes, mixing eight pars with a lone bogey at No. 11 to turn at 1-under. She moved into red numbers with consecutive birdies at No. 1 and No. 2. Following a bogey at No. 5, Bae finished par-birdie-bogey-par to wrap up her fourth par-or-better loop in 11 rounds since joining the Bulldogs in January.
No. 4 Stanford maintained a one-shot lead on the team field at 571, followed by No. 16 Arizona State.
Georgia will play with Denver and New Mexico in Sunday's final round. The Bulldogs, Pioneers and Lobos will begin play at No. 10, teeing off between 11:27-12:03 ET. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
