Georgia Women To Compete At NCAAs

AUSTIN, Texas --- The University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team is preparing for competition at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the University of Texas campus.

"This is always an exciting time for us," said Tom Cousins Swimming and Diving Head Coach Jack Bauerle. "The girls have trained hard and they're ready to get in the water. We're looking forward to some high-energy performances."
 
Ten swimmers and two divers are set to compete for Georgia. Swimmers include senior Caitlin Casazza; juniors Veronica Burchill, Sofia Carnevale, and Meryn McCann; sophomores Danielle Della Torre and Courtney Harnish; and freshmen Olivia Carter, Callie Dickinson, Maddie Homovich, and Dakota Luther. Relay alternates include juniors Katherine Aikins and Jordan Stout and sophomore Gabi Fa'amausili. Divers include juniors McKensi Austin and Freida Lim.
 
The meet begins Wednesday with the 800 freestyle relay finals starting at 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, swimming prelims will begin at 9 a.m., with diving prelims starting at 11:30 a.m., and all of the finals beginning at 5 p.m.

On the Air
 
Wednesday and Thursday nights finals will be available on ESPN digital. The Friday and Saturday finals will be on ESPNU and have Rich Burk doing play-by-play with analysis from Rowdy Gaines (swimming) and Cynthia Potter (diving). All sessions not broadcast by either ESPNU or digital will be streamed on texassports.com. 

Worth Noting for Georgia
 
The Georgia women have seven national titles under their belt and have been the national runner-up eight times.They have also finished in the top-5 17 times in the last 20 seasons. 
 
The Lady Bulldogs also hold 12 top-25 times in the country. In the 100 freestyle, Burchill comes in at eighth and Harnish claims 14th in the 200 freestyle. In the 500 freestyle, Harnish is No. 5 with McCann following at 16th. In the 1,650 freestyle Harnish comes in at 24th. In the 100 breaststroke, Carnevale claims 12th. In the 100 butterfly, Burchill takes 12th with Olivia Carter coming in at 25th. Rounding out the Lady Bulldogs is the 200 butterfly comprised of Carter at sixth, Burchill at seventh, Harnish at 14th, and Casazza at 23rd. 
 
  •  In the last 20 years, 75 Georgia swimmers have earned at least one All-America honor. Courtney Shealy holds the current record with 26 accolades. Current Bulldogs Burchill, 2017 and 2018, and McCann, 2017, have received All-America distinctions. Last year Fa'amausili earned three and Harnish earned two honorable mentions.
  • Georgia had two SEC Champions this season with Harnish (500 freestyle) and Carter (200 butterfly) contributing to the team's fifth-place finish at their conference meet.
  •  Stout was named to the 2019 SEC Community Service Team.
  • Harnish earned SEC Swimmer of the Week honors twice this season with freshmen Carter and Luther securing Freshman of the Week accolades once each.
