February 25, 2019 | Baseball
ATHENS-----Ninth-ranked Georgia returns to action Tuesday at Foley Field when it plays host to LIU Brooklyn starting at 5:02 p.m. (SECN+).
Georgia (6-0) will start junior right-hander Tim Elliott (0-0, 0.00 ERA) while the Blackbirds counter with junior right-hander Jackson Svete (0-0, 3.86 ERA). A 6-1, 200-pound native of Loganville, Ga., Elliott was poised to start last Tuesday against Kennesaw State but the game was postponed due to rain. He has pitched one scoreless inning on the year. Svete is a 6-3, 185-pounder from Marietta, Ga., who graduated from Blessed Trinity. This will be Svete's third appearance and second start for the Blackbirds (0-6).
On Wednesday, Georgia concludes a five-game home stretch when it welcomes Kennesaw State (4-2) to Foley Field at 5:02 p.m. Sophomore left-hander C.J. Smith (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to start while the Owls have not announced a starting pitcher. The teams were supposed to play last Tuesday at KSU but the game was rained out. A make-up date for that contest has not been announced.
The Bulldogs are batting .352 with a 3.46 ERA and a .986 fielding percentage. Last weekend, Georgia swept a three-game series from UMass Lowell while LIU Brooklyn dropped three to Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla. The Bulldogs are led by Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin while the Blackbirds are coached by Dan Pirillo. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
The two midweek games will be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network and streamed on SEC Network+.
