ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's swimming and diving teams each finished fifth as the Southeastern Conference Championships wrapped up on Saturday in Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Lady Bulldogs finished fifth, accumulating 883.5 points. Texas A&M placed first with 1,107 points followed by Florida at second with 1,023.5 and Kentucky at third with 927.5 points. The Bulldogs placed fifth with 862.5 points. Florida (1233) won for the men with Missouri (1137) in second and Tennessee (917) in third.

"I want to thank [championship coordinator] Christie Purks and our event management, our sports information department and everyone who contributed this week," said Jack Bauerle, Georgia's Tom Cousins Swimming and Diving Head Coach. "They did an exceptional job and I'm really proud of that. Georgia knows how to host a championship and that's really cool. We think we might load up 11 or 12 people for each of these [NCAA] meets. If we do that, that's what we were hoping for getting here. I'm really proud of some of the young kids. They're coming and they're going to be really good swimmers. If they just keep staying on the track, they're going to be more than major contributors."

Veronica Burchill claimed a new-career best time of 47.30 in the women's 100 freestyle and finished third. Gabi Fa'amausili finished 14th with a time of 49.10.
