Evans Earns SEC Player/Freshman of the Week

October 14, 2019 | Volleyball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Georgia volleyball student-athlete Kacie Evans has been named the Southeastern Conference Player and Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

"Seeing what Kacie can accomplish this early in her career is special and a testament to how hard she's worked and the high level she has played at. Thinking about where she can go is even more exciting," head volleyball coach Tom Black said. "She plays with a fire and passion each and every day that can only come from someone who loves what they do."

Evans, a native of Wadsworth, Ohio, earns Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week and the third time this season. She helped guide the Bulldogs to two wins last week including a five-set victory over #12 Kentucky on its home court. In the match, Evans recorded 15 kills and put up 10 digs. She matched both marks in Sunday's five-set thriller over LSU at Stegeman Coliseum. The rookie has recorded four-straight double-double performances.

In conference-only matches, Evans is co-leading the team with junior Rachel Ritchie with 3.23 kills per set while hitting .220 while averaging 2.15 digs per set, ranking third on the team.

Georgia volleyball is back in action Sunday at Auburn. The match, set for 1 p.m., ET, will air on SEC Network.
