CARMEL, Ind. --- The No. 20-ranked Georgia men's golf team stands first after two rounds of the 2019 Crooked Stick Invitational.
Â
On Monday on Crooked Stick Golf Club's par-72, 7,516-yard layout, the Bulldogs posted rounds of 5-under 283 and 1-over 289 for a total of 4-under 572. Georgia is two shots ahead of Vanderbilt and five clear of Marquette.
Â
Junior Davis Thompson paced the Bulldogs as he landed at 5-under 139 with loops of 4-under 68 and 1-under 71. Thompson is second individually, three shy of Marquette's Tyler Leach. Senior Spencer Ralston followed Thompson in third at 4-under 140 as he signed for a pair of 2-under 70s. Senior Calum Masters posted a 1-under 143 with rounds of 2-under 70 and 1-over 73.
Â
Sophomore Trent Phillips had back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 for a total of 6-over 150, while senior Will Chandler went 4-over 76 and 5-over 77 for a figure of 9-over 153. Playing as an individual, freshman Connor Creasy carded rounds of 2-over 74 and 5-over 77 to end the day at 7-over 151.
Â
"I was pleased with how our players performed today," Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. "A 36-hole day is demanding enough already, but when you factor in early cold and later warm temperatures, gusty winds, a competitive field, and a challenging course, it's even more so. Our guys were focused and really put in two solid rounds of golf."
Â
The Crooked Stick Invitational will conclude on Tuesday. Georgia will tee off between 9:54 and 10:30 a.m. and will be paired with Vanderbilt and Marquette. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
Â
After the Crooked Stick Invitational, the Bulldogs will wrap up the fall in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Hawaii Nov. 1-3.
