April 21, 2018 | Softball

LEXINGTON, Ky. – #6 Georgia softball (39-7, 12-5) fell to #18 Kentucky (28-14, 5-11)  in game two of the series Saturday afternoon, 4-2.

Both teams scattered six hits. Cortni Emanuel and Alyssa DiCarlo each had two hits. Emanuel scored both Georgia runs while DiCarlo recorded both RBI.

Amanda Ablan (2-3) suffered the loss in the circle. She pitched four innings in her start, striking out five Wildcats. Keara Napoli pitched two innings in relief, allowing just one hit to Kentucky.

For the 25thtime in 2018, Georgia plated a run in the first inning. Emanuelled off the game with an infield base hit to short. She proceeded to steal second and took third on a wild throw down by the catcher. She scored on a groundout to short by DiCarlo, 1-0 Georgia.

Emanuel poked a single through the left side then stole second in the third frame. She scored on DiCarlo's two-out base hit to left, adding to the lead, 2-0.

Kentucky's Alex Martens tied the game with a two-out, two-RBI base hit back up the middle in the bottom of the inning, 2-2.

Abbey Cheek gave the Wildcats their first lead of the weekend with a two-out, two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the fourth, 4-2.

The Bulldogs and Wildcats will face off in the rubber game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. In six conference series this season, this will be the fourth time Georgia will play a rubber game in the finale.

Head Coach Lu Harris-Champer
On the tandem of Emanuel and DiCarlo…
"I thought Cortni was amazing at the top of the order for us today. Finding ways on base, stealing bases, scoring some runs, and [Alyssa] behind was absolutely outstanding as well."

On the defense backing up the pitching staff…
"I think our defense was really good. We had opportunities and did a good job and sometimes the ball doesn't fall your way."
