Zielinski Moves On at ITA Fall National Championships
November 07, 2018 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia men's tennis senior Jan Zielinski added another win to his impressive fall singles record in the first day of the ITA Fall National Championships in Surprise, Arizona, on Wednesday.
In the singles round of 64, No. 22-ranked Zielinski outlasted Oregon's Emmanuel Coste to win 6-1, 7-5. Zielinski's victory over his sophomore opponent is just the latest accomplishment of the senior's fall campaign, in which he's already defeated seven nationally ranked opponents. Later in the day, in a senior showdown, No. 38-ranked Reinberg fell to Virginia Tech's Jason Kros, ranked 117 in ITA singles rankings, by a score of 7-6 (8), 6-3.
"Both matches were a challenge, and honestly they came from within," Georgia head coach Manny Diaz said. "We just made too many errors today. Jan was able to pull through his match, and Emil did not, but both competed well, so I am pleased in that regard."
The ITA Fall National Championships continues tomorrow with day two of the event. Zielinski will compete in the main draw tomorrow; Reinberg will withdraw from the consolation draw.
