October 23, 2018 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia men's tennis senior Jan Zielinski powered through six matches in three days to clinch the ITA Southeast Regional singles championship Tuesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Before defeating Adria Soriano Barrera from the University of Miami in the championship match 7-6 (8), 6-1, Zielinski put up an impressive fight to come back from a 5-2 deficit in the first-set tiebreaker. From that point on, Zielinski never looked back, defeating Barrera in the second set 6-1.
"[Zielinski's] physicality has really gone up, and he's able to stay in the points and play physical points," head coach Manny Diaz said. "He's become a very complete player, and I think he's going to become one of the elite competitors in the country, if he's not already."
With this victory, Zielinski boosts his 2018 fall singles record to 17-4. He will also join fellow Bulldog and senior Emil Reinberg at the ITA Fall National Championships in Surprise, Arizona, from Nov. 7-11.
