Bulldogs, Phillips Come In Second As Rain Wipes Out Final Round Of Rivers Intercollegiate
October 16, 2018 | Men's Golf
CHOUDRANT, La. --- Heavy rain and poor course conditions forced the cancellation of the final round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Tuesday, leaving Georgia and freshman Trent Phillips second in the team and individual competitions, respectively.
Â
Georgia finished as the runner-up at 18-under 558 with rounds of 10-under 278 and 8-under 280 on Monday at Squire Creek Country Club (par 72, 7,070 yards). The Bulldogs wound up two shots shy of UAB, which ended Monday at 20-under 556. Georgia also placed second earlier this season in The Carmel Cup in California.
Â
Phillips landed at 8-under 136, after posting loops of 4-under 68, with medalist honors going to UAB's William Walker III (9-under 135). In his three collegiate stroke-play tournaments, Phillips has finished second once and third twice. He also is 8-for-8 with rounds in the 60s and has a scoring average of 67.88.
Â
Junior Spencer Ralston and sophomore Davis Thompson came in fourth at 5-under 139 -- season-best finishes for each player. Junior Trevor Phillips took 16th, his season best, at even-par 144. Redshirt junior Tye Waller wound up at 9-over 153. Freshman Will Kahlstorf made his collegiate stroke-play debut competing as an individual and placed eighth at 3-under 141.
Â
The Bulldogs will cap the fall portion of their schedule Nov. 2-4 in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in Hawaii.
