Georgia Falls to No. 8 Clemson in Front of Record Crowd
September 03, 2017 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 8 Clemson Tigers in front a facility-record crowd of 2,457 on Sunday night at the Turner Soccer Complex.Â
Â
"We played pretty well in the first half," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "Neither team had a lot of chances in the first half. Fatigue came in the second half and they tightened the screws on us a little bit. Clemson scored two goals on set pieces, which set us back and we kind of chased the game after that. I thought our kids worked hard, played hard, and we just didn't have the right combinations in the final third."
Â
Georgia (3-3) and Clemson (6-0) each took four shots, but remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes of action.Â
Â
The Tigers scored both goals off corner kick opportunities in the 51st and 57th minutes of the game.Â
Â
The Bulldogs took nine shots with three being on target, but could not capitalize on the chances.Â
Â
"We will continue to play with each other and continue to get to know our strengths," Lesesne continued. "We have a large class of seniors and a large class of underclassmen. Having them grow together and emotionally investing in each other more helps become closer together. I think that's going to be important for us."
Â
Georgia travels to Birmingham, Alabama to face the Samford Bulldogs on Friday, September 8 at 7 p.m. ET before returning home to host Coastal Carolina at the Turner Soccer Complex on Sunday, September 10 for a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Â
Fans now have the opportunity to enjoy Georgia soccer games with a UGA soccer seatback. The seatbacks are thick and comfortable, and can be purchased at the Fan Info table located in the plaza of the Turner Soccer Complex for $5 per game. You can also save $15 by purchasing a soccer seatback for all nine home matches of the season for a total of $30.
