GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior midfielder Kiera Staude's equalizer in the 86th minute allowed the University of Georgia soccer team to close out the 2026 regular season with a critical 1-1 draw at Florida Sunday afternoon before 878 spectators at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.

With the tie, Georgia finished the season tied for ninth place with Texas at 13 points in conference play. Due to tiebreakers, the Bulldogs will enter the 2026 SEC Soccer Tournament in Pensacola, Florida, with the No. 10 seed.

Georgia (6-5-6, 3-3-4 SEC) will face seventh-seeded Oklahoma (11-5-2, 5-5-0 SEC) on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m. EST at Ashton Brosnaham Park, with live coverage on SEC Network. Earlier this season, the Sooners topped the Bulldogs, 3-1, in Athens with three second-half goals. This will be the first-ever postseason matchup between the programs.

Georgia has advanced at least one round in all four SEC Tournament appearances under head coach Keidane McAlpine, including the program's first tournament title in 2023.

Fast Facts
  • Staude found the perfect time for her second goal of the season, taking a deflection off a Gator defender and rifling into the top left corner of the net from just inside the 18 for the equalizer. For the Bulldogs, it was their second equalizer this season within the final five minutes of play, joining sophomore defender Maddy Herniter's 86th-minute goal at LSU on Sept. 27.
  • Florida (6-6-5, 2-4-4 SEC) took the lead in the 34th minute as Zoe Main scored off assists from teammates Tatum Borman and Adia Symmonds. Although she surrendered one goal, Georgia graduate goalkeeper Jordan Brown tallied five saves.
  • Florida outshot Georgia, 14-10, including a 6-5 advantage in shots on frame. The Bulldogs led in corner kicks by an 8-5 margin, but did rack up 15 fouls, their second-highest total of the season.
  • As the Bulldogs ratcheted up the defensive pressure in the second half, their attack also ramped up with eight shots in the second half. The team's best chance prior to Staude's goal came in the 55th minute as graduate forward Emma Pettersen's shot inched near the line before a Florida defender cleared it at the last second.
  • Staude, Pettersen, and sophomore defender Grayson Rogers each notched two shots on the afternoon. Sophomore defender Maddy Herniter joined Brown in playing a full 90 minutes, her 11th full shift of the season.
