Shepherd had his third four-hit game of his career including second in an SEC game in the 7-5 win over the Volunteers Saturday. In Sunday's series-clinching win, he went 3-for-4. Bulldog freshman third baseman Aaron Schunk also enjoyed a big series against UT as he batted .538 (7-for-13) with two RBI.
Overall, Shepherd ranks second on the team with a .333 average. He has hit safely in 13 of the past 14 games. He has started all 29 games at shortstop. Shepherd is the first Bulldog to garner an SEC Freshman Award this season. Last year, catcher Michael Curry was twice named SEC Freshman of the Week while Kevin Smith was honored once.
Georgia (13-16) returns to action Tuesday night when it plays host to fifth-ranked Clemson (24-5). First pitch at Foley Field will be at 7:02 p.m., and the game will be televised by the SEC Network and be available on the Bulldog Sports Network from IMG. The first 500 UGA students will receive a free "Beat Clemson" t-shirt, and UGA students can run the bases following the game.
