Browns Summit, N.C. --- The No. 9-ranked Georgia women's golf team and sophomore Jillian Hollis are in second place on the team and individual leaderboards entering Sunday's final round of the Bryan National Collegiate. The Bulldogs covered Saturday's 36 holes at 2-over 578, paced by Hollis' 5-under 139 tally.
Friday's opening round round was rained out, which forced two rounds with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Georgia carded a 3-over 291 in the morning before posted a 1-under 287 in the afternoon. All told, six of the Bulldogs' eight counting scores on Saturday were par-or-better tallies.
"We had a very solid day," head coach Josh Brewer said. "It was a very long day. To get six rounds under par always keep you in position to do well. We've played well at home and practiced well all spring. It's nice to see it translate into a tournament, especially one this late in the season when we're getting close to the postseason. All we ever want is a chance come Sunday, and we're in the final grouping. Tomorrow afternoon we will have a chance to get our first victory of the spring."
Hollis led Georgia in both rounds. She shot 2-under 70 in her first loop around the Bryan National Champions Course, and improved to a 3-under 69 in the second round. Bailey Tardy also shot under-par in both rounds, with a 1-under 71 followed by a 2-under 70.
"Jillian and Bailey played great all day," Brewer said. "This time of year is when you rely on your All-Americans to put up the scores they put up today. Hopefully, they can continue it tomorrow becuase they're both in conention for the individual victory."
The additional red numbers came from Harang Lee, who shot 71 in the first round, and Mary Ellen Shuman, who posted a 71 in the second round.
No. 3 Alabama and Bulldogs are 1-2 on both leaderboards entering Sunday.
The Crimson Tide finished the day at 3-under 573, five shots better than Georgia.
Alabama's Lauren Stephenson is the individual leader at 137, a shot better than Hollis and Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest. Tardy also is within striking distance. She is sixth at 3-under 141. In addition, Lee is tied for 29th at 148, Shuman is tied for 38th at 150 and Gabriela Coello is tied for 74th at 158.
Rounding out the top 10 of the team leaderboard are No. 20 Baylor at 579, North Carolina at 581, No. 11 South Carolina at 582, N.C. State at 586, No. 15 Miami at 587, No. 12 Wake Forest at 591, Michigan at 595 and Virginia at 596.
"You have to be mentally tough out there on a 36-hold day," Brewer said. "Physically, today was a day that the work of Chris (Herold) and our strength and conditioning staff paid off. We have those 6:30 workouts for a day like today. Tomorrow will be another great challenge. We need to get rested and try to get some of the soreness out and not let it both us.
After the opening round, Georgia was tied for third with Alabama and five shots off the pace of North Carolina.
