No. 16 Auburn Claims Series With 4-1 Win

March 26, 2017

In the final game of the three game series, Auburn beat Georgia 4-1 on Sunday.

Final Stats

ATHENS, GA. --- Bulldog starter Chase Adkins struck out a career high eight batters over eight innings of work but Georgia dropped the rubber match of its first home SEC series 4-1 to the No. 16 Auburn Tigers.

The Tigers (20-6, 5-1 SEC) would make a fourth inning two-run homerun by shortstop Luke Jarvis stand-up behind six scoreless innings from starter Daniel Davis. Two insurance runs in the ninth would bring the final tally to 4-1.

Bulldog sophomore DH Michael Curry reached base three times with a first inning single, a walk in the fourth and a double in the ninth. Freshman Cam Shepherd's double down the left field line in the sixth was also one of the five Georgia hits on the day. Junior Keegan McGovern scored the lone Georgia run in the ninth after a one-out walk and a sacrifice fly by Will Campbell. Tiger senior Cole Lipscomb closed the door preserving the win.

The Bulldogs (10-15, 1-5 SEC) return to action Tuesday at Foley Field against the Savannah State Tigers at 6 p.m.

Dawg Tracks:

*Michael Curry (2-for-3) extended his hitting streak to 11 with a single and a double.

*Cam Shepherd extended his hitting streak to 10 with a 1-out double in the sixth.

*Chase Adkins pitched eight innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and struck out a career-high eight.
*Freshman Tucker Maxwell saw his on base streak end at a team-high 19 games.

Coach's Corner: Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin:

On Chase Adkins' performance:

"He deserved better. Eight innings and only give up a couple runs. He left a few pitches up in the zone in that fourth inning, but other than that he was really good. We didn't have enough runners in scoring position today. Bottom line is we didn't have good at-bats, and they made every play. And that's what good teams do. They made the plays, and they made a lot of good ones. That's five free opportunities we gave them in the ninth inning, and a 4-0 game is a lot different than a 2-0 game. Tomorrow's an off day, but they need to have a good productive off day and be ready for Tuesday."

Player Perspective: Starting Pitcher Chase Adkins

"As the game got longer, I was feeling better and better, except for that one inning. The pitch he hit out was low, but he went down and got it. That's baseball. It is what it is. You've just got to have that mindset."
