Postgame Interviews | Final Stats

ATHENS, Ga. - A four-run third inning lifted the Georgia Bulldogs to a 9-3 victory over Rider in the finale of the three-game series on Sunday.

Rider (5-6) recorded the first run with a walk, a base hit and an RBI groundout in the top of the first inning, but Georgia starter Chase Adkins doubled down to post a one run, four hit outing in six innings.

Georgia (7-9) responded with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, as junior Will Campbell drew an RBI walk against Rider pitcher Paul Sparano to push the tying run across the plate.

Junior Keegan McGovern extended the Bulldogs' rally with a single to right field, scoring junior Trey Logan for the go-ahead run. Sophomore Michael Curry followed with another base hit to right, collecting a pair of RBI for the 4-1 lead.

Georgia tacked on another two runs in the bottom of the fourth, as freshman Cam Shepherd singled to left and scored freshman Aaron Schunk. To tally the sixth Georgia run, a wild pitch from Rider reliever Anthony Arneth allowed freshman Tucker Maxwell to score from third.

On base from a single to left field in the bottom of the fifth, Schunk scored the seventh Georgia run from first on an attempted pick-off play by the third Rider pitcher of the game, sophomore Nick Payesko.

Rider cut the margin to 7-3 with a two-run home run from senior Tyler Kaiser in the top of the eighth, but the Bulldogs added two runs of their own on a base hit from freshman Tucker Maxwell that scored freshman Austin Biggar and Schunk.

Georgia closer Trevor Tinder pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the 9-3 final.

DAWG TRACKS
-Adkins has allowed only one run in 21 innings pitched.

-With two walks on the day, Maxwell has reached base in a team-leading 11-straight games.

Coach's Corner
Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin
"It's a W in the win column, and hopefully it can give us some momentum going into this week. It's still not perfect, we got some work today, still a little bit sloppy. But I thought Chase Adkins gave us a good start, and Tucker Bradley was really good out of the pen, and it was good to see Trevor Tinder get in there and give us an inning, but overall, we still need to get better."

"I thought the best thing about today was our energy was much much better. We could've hung our heads after the last two days. The last two days were really difficult, and I thought our kids fought really hard today and had a lot better energy."

Players Perspective
Junior RHP Chase Adkins
On one run in his past 21 innings
"I just got to keep getting better and better. That's a huge accomplishment anyways, but each week, I've just got to get better and better and got to help the guys out."

Freshman 3b Aaron Schunk
On today's performance:
"It's definitely a step in the right direction. I think we all know that we're not the team that we know we can be right now."

"It wasn't the full potential, but it was definitely a good win, which is good to have right now."

On capitalizing:
"We definitely won the free-be award today. We came in this morning and we said that we were going to play with the passion and the love of the game that got us here. And it definitely paid off. We were feeling like a baseball team today."
