A game in which Georgia led throughout, junior guard Simone Costa drilled a 3-pointer in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to keep Georgia at a comfortable 10-point cushion. The Aggies managed to slim the deficit to as little as six points but the Lady Bulldogs finished the game on an 8-3 run to seal the win.
"We had a few really good practices lately and what I saw today was a focused team," Georgia head coach Joni Taylor said. "Everybody made a play when we needed them to. We sustained their run and that is a pretty good team out there."
Four Georgia players registered double-digit outputs, as junior Mackenzie Engram led the way with 19 points. Costa and redshirt senior Pachis Roberts notched 13 points each while sophomore Caliya Robinson chipped in 11 points. Junior guard Haley Clark dished a team-high seven assists and Robinson collected a team-best seven rebounds.
"I thought we did really well on both ends of the court," Taylor added. "We took turns guarding Khaalia Hillsman and trying to box out Anriel Howard. Then offensively, Mackenzie made plays, Caliya made plays late, Pachis was very involved and then we got Simone, who had her fourth double-figure scoring game for us. She is just really starting to come on and play with a lot more confidence for us."
The Lady Bulldogs offense was on display early, as all five starters scored at least two points in the opening quarter to give Georgia a 10-point lead at 20-10. Georgia extended its lead to 17 points, 40-23, by the end of the second quarter, a period that featured a stretch where the Aggies were held scoreless for nearly five minutes. Roberts led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 first-half points while Engram followed with 10 points.
The Aggies erased that halftime deficit with a 9-0 run to pull within five points, 44-39, at the 3:49 mark in the third quarter. Georgia responded with a few baskets before heading into the final quarter with a 50-43 advantage en route to the victory.
Georgia shot 46 percent from the floor while limiting the Aggies to 36 percent. The Texas A&M offense sputtered as it had a season-low nine assists, eight coming from Curtyce Knox, who leads the nation with 9.8 assists per game. The Aggies shot a season-worst 0-for-9 from 3-point territory and had 25 turnovers that Georgia turned into 24 points.
The Lady Bulldogs are back in action versus the Vanderbilt Commodores Sunday at Noon ET at Stegeman Coliseum. The game will be featured on SEC Network.
