AUBURN, Ala. --- Georgia took twice as many shots as Iowa State, but it proved not to be enough as the Bulldogs fell 2-0 to the Cyclones on Sunday afternoon in the Auburn Soccer Classic. Georgia soccer drops to 2-3-1 on the season.
"It was a disappointing game, especially the result," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "There were moments when we played well and just didn't get anything out of the game. To Iowa State's credit, they were tough. They defended well and beat us on the counter attack."
Georgia controlled the ball throughout the first 20 minutes of play. The Bulldogs took three shots before the 24th minute when Iowa State took its first shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead.
The half finished with Georgia taking eight shots to Iowa State's three. Two of those shots were on goal.
Georgia started the second half taking three shots in the first ten minutes. The first one by Becca Rasmussen soared just high over the center of the net. Marion Crowder took a shot that was saved before Lauren Tanner set her up for a shot that went high.
The Cyclones extended their lead in the 87th minute when Iowa State's Hannah Cade went one-on-one with Georgia goalkeeper Louise Hogrell to make the final score 2-0.
Georgia finished the game outshooting Iowa State 13-6 and took nine corner kicks to the Cyclones' three.
On Friday night in the Auburn Soccer Classic, Georgia fell to USC 3-0 before Iowa State defeated No. 21 Auburn 1-0. Auburn and USC are scheduled to play tonight at 6 p.m CT.
