FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- A strong, defensive first half falls short as Georgia is defeated by No. 12 Arkansas 2-1 at Razorback Field on Friday night. Georgia soccer is now 3-8-1 on the season and 0-5 in Southeastern Conference play, while Arkansas improves to 12-1, 5-0.

"It was another tough game," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "We played well in the last ten minutes of the half and did not carry that momentum into the second half. They scored a goal early in the second half and that put a lot of pressure on us. We played with more desperation towards the end and were able to get one in, but could not get the tying goal. Credit to Arkansas, they worked really hard tonight."

The Bulldogs came out on the attack, getting two shots off in the first five minutes of action, before the defense showed their strength with much of the first half being played on Georgia's side of the pitch.

Delaney Fechalos was a key to Georgia's defense early in the first period with two blocked shots. Arkansas took 10 shots, only one on goal, but the Bulldogs were able to keep the Razorbacks scoreless through the first half.

Marion Crowder had an opportunity to put the Bulldogs on the board late in the half, but the shot was blocked by an Arkansas defender.

Georgia led Arkansas 2-1 in shots on goal through 45 minutes.

The match resumed with the Razorbacks firing shots. Arkansas was successful in scoring back-to- back goals in the 49th and 51st minutes of play to take a 2-0 lead.

Georgia answered in the 85th minute with Summer Burnett feeding the ball to Kelsey Killean who brought it down the pitch and booted it into the back of the net to cut Arkansas' lead in half.

Georgia had one more chance to equal the score in the 88th minute, but could not capitalize. No. 12 Arkansas defeated Georgia 2-1.

Georgia heads to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
