August 03, 2016 | General
ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia student-athletes from five different sports teams will be at East Athens Community Center on Friday, August 5 as part of the "UGA Learn, Play, Excel" initiative.
Georgia is partnering with the community center to provide a great experience for their "First Fridays Family Day". Twenty-one student-athletes, Athens-Clarke County Police, UGA Police, and other community programs and services will be in attendance to show and provide support for the Back to School event, which runs from 6-8 p.m. There will be a DJ, inflatables, a catered dinner for participants, and appearances from UGA cheerleaders and Hairy Dawg, among other activities.
Student-athletes will distribute Georgia bags, t-shirts, and other items to the students. The first 300 children, ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, will receive a copy of Malcolm Mitchell's children's book, "The Magician's Hat".
