May 22, 2026 | General

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia Director of Athletic Performance Sean Hayes has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).

Hayes, who is in his 16th year in Athens, will serve a two-year term on the board, with the opportunity to seek reelection at the conclusion of the term, if desired. Hayes, who sports more than two decades of experience in both the professional and collegiate levels, works with Georgia's volleyball, men's tennis, and men's swimming and diving teams. He has also worked with men's basketball and women's golf at UGA.

The CSCCa Board of Directors consists of nine Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches (MSCCs) and two Special Advisors to the Board. The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the organization's functions and must be elected by our general membership. In order to serve on our Board of Directors, a coach must be: a CSCCa member, SCCC certified, and an MSCC. Hayes was awarded the status of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach in May 2014, which represents the organization's highest individual honor.

Hayes came to Georgia after four seasons in a similar capacity with the NFL's Buffalo Bills. Before his tenure in pro football, Hayes spent more than a decade in intercollegiate athletics.

Before his stint in the NFL, Hayes served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Clemson basketball team from 2004-06.

Hayes was the first full-time Director of Strength and Conditioning for the entire 41-varsity sport program at Harvard University from 2002-04. He spent three years working with the Crimson's football team, men's and women's basketball teams, as well as both ice hockey squads.

Hayes' other collegiate strength and conditioning positions include stints at Tulsa, Springfield College (his alma mater), Yale, and Boston University.

Hayes was inducted into the Peabody (Mass.) High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He lettered in football, hockey, and lacrosse for the Tanners. Hayes excelled as a goalie for Peabody's lacrosse team and went on to play for Springfield College and the Boston Blazers.

Hayes earned two degrees from Springfield. He received his bachelor's in Health Fitness in 1996 and then completed a Master's Degree with a specialization in Applied Exercise Science in 1999.
