RIO DE JANEIRO — Incoming Georgia freshman Yijun “Tom” Feng and the USA men’s table tennis team were swept by Sweden, 3-0, on Friday. The loss eliminated the squad from team championship contention in Rio de Janeiro.
Feng, born in Nanjing, China, calls in Alpharetta, Georgia home and plans to major in finance at UGA.
Feng was slotted in the first singles match of the contest for the American squad, and he fell in straight games to Sweden’s Par Gerell (11-3, 11-6, 12-10). Feng, who did not lead at any point in the first game, led by a point in game two and busted open a three-point cushion in game three but was unable to hold Gerell at bay.
Following Feng’s match, the USA dropped a singles match from Kanak Jha against Kristian Karlsson as well as a doubles match played by Jha and Timothy Wang.
