ATHENS, Ga.--- Enduring its final home stretch of the season, the Georgia volleyball team (13-15, 1-14) fell 3-1 to the Arkansas Razorbacks (7-20, 5-10) on Friday night at the Ramsey Center.
After taking set one 28-26, the Bulldogs fell to the Razorbacks 25-27, 20-25 and 22-25 in the final three sets.
"We're in the final stretch here, and we're looking to get two points better every set," said Georgia head coach Lizzy Stemke. "Two points could come from our offense. They could come from our block. We need to continue to fight until the end to be two points better every set."
Maddie Lobenstein led the way offensively with 16 kills and Cassidy Anderson recorded 12 digs. Meghan Donovan notched her ninth double-double this season with 49 assists and 10 digs while Kendall Kazor tallied a career-best 14 kills to go with a team-high .370 hitting mark in the match. For Arkansas, five different players recorded double-digit kills while libero Okiana Valle put up 24 digs.
Georgia came out energized in an entertaining opening frame, jumping out to a 12-4 lead before forcing the Razorbacks to call an early timeout. The Razorbacks clawed back, capitalizing on nine unforced Bulldog errors to knot the first set at 24. The Bulldogs found an answer to the Arkansas attack behind Lobenstein's five kills and rallied to claim set one 28-26.
Very little separated the teams in the second set. The Razorbacks faced set point leading 24-20. The Bulldogs engineered a late comeback after holding off set point four times to tie it up, but fell 27-25.
The visitors maintained their momentum coming out of the break, hitting .310 and committing just two unforced errors in the third frame. The Bulldogs would get within three points at 20-17 before dropping the third set 25-20.
In a tight fourth set that went point-for-point, it was the Razorbacks who were able to find holes in the Georgia defense as they hit .517 for the set on their way to a 25-22 win.
Georgia's has two home games left this season, as the homestand continues on Sunday with a 2 p.m. ET match against Ole Miss. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
