Georgia Drops 3-1 Match To Ole Miss

Georgia volleyball head coach Lizzy Stemke gave her thoughts following Georgia's loss to Ole Miss.

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia volleyball team put up strong numbers against Ole Miss (16-13, 5-11), but the Rebels edged out the Bulldogs (13-15, 1-15) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Ole Miss came back to win the first set 27-25 before Georgia took the second frame 25-23. The Rebels finished off the game with set wins of 25-12 and 25-19.
"I think we competed really well for three sets" said head coach Lizzy Stemke. "We disappeared a little bit from our serve-and-pass game in set three and that was difficult to come back from. In set three, we needed to stabilize our serve-and-pass game because I felt our offense was very effective, but when we lost the passing game, it was hard to get everyone back involved and in the rhythm."
Sophomore Majesti Bass had a solid game against Ole Miss, adding 10 kills and eight blocks. The middle blocker was one of three Bulldogs to post double-digit kills, as redshirt junior Amanda Dachs and junior Maddie Lobenstein had 15 kills each. Junior Cassidy Anderson held down the back row with 20 digs while freshman Meghan Donovan had 43 assists to go with seven digs and six kills.
Georgia gained large leads in each of the opening sets. After climbing ahead by as much as seven points in the first, the lead diminished after Ole Miss found a 7-1 scoring rally to close the gap at 19-17. After Georgia miscues tied it at 22 each, the teams went point-for-point before Ole Miss earned the win 27-25.
In the next set, Georgia found itself with a 17-9 lead after a 6-0 spree opened the gap. Ole Miss again got within striking distance late, holding off Georgia's set point in five-consecutive plays. A Lobenstein kill sealed the win at 25-23, as Georgia hit .389 with just three attack errors in the frame.
Ole Miss took a 2-1 lead after a rough third set from Georgia allowed the Rebels a 25-12 win. In the final frame, the teams were knotted at 15 each before Ole Miss took the lead it wouldn't relinquish for the 25-19 win.
Georgia heads into its final week of the regular season, as the team will host Missouri on Wednesday for Senior Night at 7 p.m. ET before heading to Mississippi State for a 1 p.m. ET match on Saturday.
