Game Notes
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia volleyball team (12-5, 0-4) will have a change of venue for two games this weekend when the Bulldogs take on South Carolina (13-2, 1-2) and LSU (6-10, 1-4).
Inclement weather along the east coast cause an away match to become a home match, as the Bulldogs face the Gamecocks in Athens on Friday at 7 p.m. ET with the game being broadcast on SEC Network. The first 100 fans to the Ramsey Center will receive a free pair of sunglasses.
Sunday's 1:30 p.m. ET game against LSU will also be a change of scenery, as the teams will play in Stegeman Coliseum in the Dig Pink match. The contest will be the first in Stegeman since the facility went under renovations this past offseason.
With a donation, 200 pink T-shirts will be handed out on Sunday while there will be a silent auction for the player's warm-up jerseys. It will also be Superhero Day with the first 100 kids receiving a free cape. Superheroes will be walking around the concourse of Stegeman as well as balloon artist and face painter. The first 100 students will receive free pizza while autographs will be available after the match.
Live stat and broadcast links for both games are available at georgiadogs.com.
-Game Notes-
VERSUS SOUTH CAROLINA, LSU
South Carolina: Georgia leads the Gamecocks 46-20 in the overall series, but has dropped the last two meetings. In last year's match, Amanda Dachs had a double-double of 11 digs and 10 kills while Elle McCord and Cassidy Anderson had 15 and 10 digs, respectively. Desiree McCray had nine blocks in that match, giving her 18 career blocks vs. USC.
LSU: LSU holds the advantage in the series 34-21 over Georgia. No match comes easy between the Bulldogs and Tigers, as a match has gone to either four or five sets the last nine times, including last year's five-set thriller. The last sweep by a team was LSU's win in September 2010. In last year's match, Dachs, Megan Spencer and Maddie Lobenstein had double-digit kills while Anderson posted 21 digs, bumping her career total against the Tigers to 27 digs along with three aces. McCray has 12 kills and 13 blocks all-time vs. LSU while Spencer has 15 kills and three blocks.
BULLDOGS CHANGING VENUES FOR LSU
Usually the home of Georgia basketball, Stegeman Coliseum will serve as the home venue for volleyball on Sunday against LSU. Since 2012, the Bulldogs are 4-4 in Stegeman matches, as the last win came against No. 15 Kentucky in 2013. Georgia also hosted the Benson's Hospitality Invitational that same year, sweeping the field. Other SEC matches in Stegeman were against in-state rival Georgia Tech in 2012, Alabama and Florida in 2014, and the Wildcats again last season.
MCCRAY TAKES ON HOMETOWN TEAM
With Friday's game vs. South Carolina, McCray will get a chance to take on her hometown team, as the senior is originally from Columbia. Weather forced the game back to Athens, but it would have been McCray and the Bulldogs' first return to the Palmetto State since the team's 3-0 win in October 2013. McCray is continuing to have a great career at the net, as she is sporting a team-best 19 blocks against SEC foes this season. The senior also hit the service line for the first time last weekend, notching her first career ace against Alabama while finishing the game against the Tide as well as Auburn with two service aces in each match, a team best for those games.
DONOVAN HITS BEST MARK VS. ALABAMA
Meghan Donovan continues to improve throughout her first year in Athens, as she hit a new personal best with 52 assists against Alabama. The St. Louis native guided Georgia to hitting .220 vs. the Tide and .234 against Auburn last weekend, the team's best hitting percentages in SEC action since last season's game against Alabama in November. Donovan's 52 assists topped the 46 she had in Georgia's comeback, five-set win at Boston College.
