October 23, 2016 | Volleyball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- The Georgia volleyball team (13-9, 1-8) played another close match, going toe-to-toe with No. 10 Florida (18-2, 8-1) in the first two sets before falling 3-0 in the match on Sunday afternoon.
Late runs by Florida allowed the home team to win the first two frames 25-19 before the nationally-ranked Gators kept Georgia out of system in the third, winning 25-8.
"We played a very aggressive two sets, and we were very pleased with our serving and swings that we were taking," said head coach Lizzy Stemke. "We are a team that continues to improve and we will be working to gain more consistency in this level of play as the second half of SEC play continues."
Amanda Dachs and Maddie Lobenstein once again led the offense from the left side, tabbing seven kills apiece. Majesti Bass was close behind with six kills, as the sophomore also had a solo block in the match. Lobenstein along with Desiree McCray and Cassidy Anderson notched two aces each.
Aggressive serving by the Bulldogs kept the first two sets close. Three different Bulldogs tabbed an ace in the first set, as the teams had eight tied scores before Florida took the win 25-19.
The second set was evenly contested again, but a 7-1 run by Florida allowed the Gators a 25-19 win. In the frame, the teams had 10 tied scores and five lead changes, as Georgia's last advantage came at 17-16 with a kill by Bass. Lobenstein found an empty spot on the court to tie it up at 18 each, but the Florida run ended the rally for a 2-0 lead at the break.
Florida showed its offensive muscle in the third, using an early 12-0 spree to get ahead en route to winning the frame 25-8.
The Bulldogs' next match will be Sunday, October 30 at Arkansas. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. ET start on SEC Network.
