Richt Praises Lambert, Focus Turns To Southern

ATHENS, Ga. -- Off to a 3-0 start and following a 52-20 win against SEC rival South Carolina, the No. 7 ranked Georgia Bulldogs turn their attention to Saturday's non-conference tilt against Southern University.
Junior quarterback Greyson Lambert stole the show on Saturday against the Gamecocks, setting a NCAA record for best completion percentage, completing 24-of-25 (96 percent) passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns. Through three starts, Lambert leads the SEC in completion percentage (74.1 percent) and ranks third in pass efficiency (187.6).
"You hope you do that every Saturday, because we are always striving to execute everything we call and always striving to do things right," head coach Mark Richt said. "There's a lot of things that have to go right for a quarterback to have that kind of day. It certainly starts with protection, route running schemes and guys catching the ball on the other end. It was just one game, one performance, so we don't want to get too carried away, but it was a great day."
Lambert led an offense that totaled 576 yards on Saturday. The Georgia quarterback was not the only star for the Bulldogs as Nick Chubb carried the ball 21 times for 159 yards to tally his 11th consecutive game with 100 yards or more, while teammate Sony Michel ran for 51 yards on just eight carries and accounted for three touchdowns (one rushing and two TD receptions) on the day.
"I think it was just a good job by the offensive staff to put the plan together," Richt added. "We were able to stick to the script pretty good because things were working. I think play calling is a whole lot better when you execute, but execution is coaching as well, so I like the execution part that the staff got everybody to do."
During Sunday's teleconference, Richt said his team is still looking back at film from this past Saturday but knows the Bulldogs are getting set to face a solid Southern squad that enters this weekend's contest with a 2-1 overall record. The Jaguars have won two-straight games, scoring 50 points in each contest.
"As usual, we are just cleaning up this last ball game. I sat from 2 to 3:30 with the offense, 3:30 to 5 with the defense, just had dinner with the family night group, I have a staff meeting and then we will talk special teams and start focusing on our next opponent."
Kickoff for Saturday's contest at Sanford Stadium is set for Noon ET on the SEC Network.
