Georgia Closes Non-Conference Slate in NC

The practice report has interviews with Coach Stemke, Amanda Dachs and Megan Spencer on how they are coming together as a team and trying work out new strategies to improve for this weekends tournament.

Game Notes
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia volleyball team (4-5) closes the door on its non-conference schedule with a three-game weekend at the Demon Deacon Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C.
After facing host Wake Forest (6-3) at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 18, the Bulldogs finish the tournament with Hofstra (8-4) at 10 a.m. ET and VCU (4-7) at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 19. VERSUS THE DEMON DEACON CLASSIC FIELD
Wake Forest: Georgia is 3-0 against Wake Forest, last collecting a 3-1 win in 2010 in Winston-Salem. The teams' first two meetings were in Athens, as Georgia won 3-1 in 1983 and posted a sweep in 1985.
Hofstra: The teams have only met once in program history, as Georgia won 3-1 in 1984.
VCU: The Rams and Bulldogs played one time in 1988 with Georgia winning 3-1.
GILLIAM RETURNS TO HOME STATE
Freshman Sydney Gilliam will get a chance to play in front of her home state crowd this weekend, as Gilliam is originally from North Carolina. Hailing from Hendersonville, Gilliam's hometown is approximately 168 miles from Winston-Salem.
This season, Gilliam has appeared in five matches and eight sets with four digs and a service ace to her name.
ANDERSON SETS CAREER HIGH IN DIGS
Sophomore Cassidy Anderson had her first 20-dig game of her Georgia career, posting 20 versus Georgetown. The stat beats out her previous high of 18 against Wofford in the season opener while giving her 10 double-digit dig performances in her career and seven this season.
SPENCER SHINES DEFENSIVELY
Redshirt junior Megan Spencer was a force at the net this past weekend, tabbing a total of 12 blocks in the pair of games. Her 1.71 average was a team best for the tournament. Spencer had five blocks against No. 11 Wisconsin on Thursday night, a number that tied her career high, before breaking her career best with seven in the contest against Georgetown. It was the first time this season that Spencer had five or more blocks in a game and fourth time in her career.
NICE HOMECOMING FOR LOBENSTEIN
Getting to go home to Madison, Wis., sophomore Maddie Lobenstein had a nice homecoming when the team faced Georgetown in the UW Field House. Lobenstein put down a career-best 17 kills, turning it on in the second set with seven kills in the frame. The 17 kills shattered her previous career high of 11 she set twice earlier this season, the most recent against Georgia Southern.
THIRD DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR DACHS
Redshirt sophomore Amanda Dachs recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs against Georgetown. It marked the fourth of her career, as she has had two against Georgia Tech and one against Georgia Southern. Including her double-doubles, Dachs has now had double-digit kill games 16 times in her career and six double-digit dig performances.
KAZOR DISHES OUT NEW CAREER HIGH
Sophomore Kendall Kazor also got in a career high while taking on Georgetown. Kazor dished out 45 assists versus the Hoyas, knocking of the 44 she had against Georgia Southern for her new career high.
BULLDOGS POST SEASON-BEST STATS AGAINST GEORGETOWN
Despite falling in a close match against Georgetown, Georgia put up some of its best numbers of the season against the Hoyas. Offensively, the Bulldogs posted 59 kills and 56 assists while defensively Georgia had season highs with 69 digs and 12 blocks.
