Anderson Strong As Georgia Swept By Rebs

OXFORD, Miss. --- The Georgia volleyball team (5-10, 0-3) fell in its first Southeastern Conference road match of the season, 3-0, at Ole Miss (16-4, 2-3) on Friday night.
"Our team battled with inconsistency tonight that had us falling short in each set," said head coach Lizzy Stemke. "We had some good moments of fight, but didn't take advantage of some of the opportunities in front of us. We just look to improve more in the next match. It's good to be on the road and work some of these kinks out, as with every match our goal is to continue to improve."
The Bulldogs fell by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-20, putting Ole Miss on the ropes in each set, as statistically the Bulldog defense stood its ground behind the play of sophomore Cassidy Anderson's 16 digs. Georgia led the digs battle 42-39 over Ole Miss as well as outblocking the Rebels 8-6. Redshirt junior Desiree McCray and redshirt senior Jasmine Eatmon each had four blocks on the night.
Sophomore Maddie Lobenstein led the team offensively with nine kills followed by McCray's seven. Freshman Sarah Lagler-Clark came in to put up 20 assists. The Bulldogs also had five service aces compared to four service errors, as Anderson added a pair of aces in the contest.
It was a tight match early, leading up to a stalemate at 15 each after an Ole Miss service error. The Rebels then rolled out five-straight points to open the first frame up at 20-15. Three Ole Miss miscues put Georgia back in it at 22-19, but the deficit would be too much to overcome.
Georgia took a 5-1 early lead after back-to-back Anderson aces. Ole Miss quickly rallied to take over before an 8-3 Georgia run sparked by a Megan Spencer kill tied it at 19. The Bulldogs held Ole Miss' set point to force the Rebels into a timeout at 24-23, but a kill by Ole Miss put the home team up 2-0 at the break.
The Georgia offense hit a match-best .241 in the third frame, as a Lobenstein kill put it at 9-7. A three-point rally then extended the Rebel lead to 12-7 at a Georgia timeout. Ole Miss stretched the lead to 22-14; however, the Bulldogs didn't back down, using a 6-1 run capped with an Amanda Dachs kill to set the score at 23-20, as Ole Miss used its final timeout. The Rebels found the floor on the last two points to finish off the match.
Georgia stays in the Magnolia State and hits the court on Sunday, Oct. 11 at Mississippi State. The match will be available to watch on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
