McCoy Wins Collegiate Challenge Cup Medalist Honors

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. --- Lee McCoy claimed medalist honors and led the No. 5 Georgia men's golf team to a fifth-place finish in the DICK'S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup on Saturday at the Golf Club of Tennessee.
McCoy, a junior, fired a final-round 2-under 69 to wind up at 8-under 205 for the tournament, He edged South Carolina's Will Starke by one shot.
"I honestly had no idea where I was, and I had no idea where Will (Starke) was at," McCoy said. "I had no idea I had won until everyone started clapping when I made that last putt. I had not a clue in the world. ... This is one of my favorite golf courses we come to all year. And to win out here, it's something special."
The win was the second in McCoy's collegiate career. He also earned medalist honors at the United States Amateur last month to cap a stellar summer circuit run.
McCoy's Bulldogs shot a 5-over 289 on Saturday to wind up at 9-over 861. Georgia Tech took team honors at 4-under 848, one shot better than host Vanderbilt.
Senior Nicholas Reach followed McCoy with an even-par 71 to finish 18th at 5-over 218. Senior Mookie DeMoss (3-over 74) finished at 7-over 220, followed by sophomore Greyson Sigg (4-over 75) and freshman Zach Healy (6-over 77) each at 9-over 222.
The DICK'S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup will end on Sunday as the SEC and ACC teams square off in a match play competition. Live results can be found at GolfStat.com.
