Bulldogs to Participate in `Learn, Play, Excel' on Wednesday

ATHENS, Ga. - University of Georgia student-athletes from 11 different sports teams will travel to Berta Weathersbee Elementary School in LaGrange on Wednesday as part of the "UGA Day - Learn, Play, Excel' initiative.

Twenty-seven student-athletes will speak to and eat lunch with the school's students during the visit. The program includes topics such as education, leadership, anti-bullying, respect for authority and the value of participation in athletics.

Assistant coach Jonas Hayes of the men's basketball team and associate head coach Joni Crenshaw of the women's basketball team will lead off the program. Football players Chris Conley, Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Burnette, along with track & field standout Megan Malasarte will also address the students about the importance of a strong education and achieving success in school.

Following the program, students will receive Georgia backpacks, posters and t-shirts distributed by the student-athletes.
