HUTCHINSON, Kansas --- Due to weather delays totaling more than eight hours at the NCAA Championships, the Georgia men's golf team never started its first round on Friday.
Play will resume at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Prairie Dunes Country Club for the 15 teams that were able to start the first round. None of the top seeds, including sixth-seeded Georgia, saw any action on Friday and they will not begin play Saturday until at least 10 a.m. Live results can be found at NCAA.com.
The field includes 156 golfers, so there will not be enough daylight on Saturday to complete 36 holes, according to tournament officials.
Approximately 1.25 inches of rain fell on Prairie Dunes on Friday, leaving tee boxes, fairway landing zones and greens underwater all over the course.
The tournament is slated to run through Wednesday. The five-day forecast lists scattered thunderstorms each day, including a 50 percent chance on Saturday and a 60 percent chance on Monday.
The original format for the national tournament was a 54-hole stroke play event with the top eight teams advancing to match play on Tuesday. The low 40 individuals plus ties after 54 holes are slated to compete on Monday to determine the individual medalist.
