ATHENS-----University of Georgia sophomore pitcher Mike Mancuso has been named to the Southeastern Conference Baseball Community Service Team, the league announced recently.

The SEC supports a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.

Mancuso, a native of Brecksville, Ohio, has been a Special Olympics volunteer for the Home Runs for Hometown Rivals event at Foley Field, participated in the "Spread The Word To End The Word," campaign by Special Olympics, and he has made visits to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital and various elementary schools. Additionally, he has volunteered with Toys for Tots and helped spearhead community service projects while playing with the Battle Creek (Mich.) Bombers summer baseball team.

Mancuso helped the Bulldogs advance to the 2014 SEC Tournament as their season ended this past Tuesday. In related baseball news, the league office starting Tuesday, May 27 will announce the All-SEC teams and other annual awards.
