UGA Student-Athletes to Volunteer at Special Olympics Prom

ATHENS, Ga.-----Thirty-nine University of Georgia student-athletes will volunteer at the Special Olympics Prom to be held Thursday, Nov. 20 from 6-9 p.m., at the Classic Center.
This is an annual event where about 50 Special Olympics Athletes from schools across Clarke County get dressed up for a night of fun and dancing with UGA student-athletes. This year’s “Mardi Gras”- themed prom will feature mask decorating and face painting as well as a pie-in-the-face fundraiser.
The fundraising element was added to this year’s event. The Special Olympics at UGA raised $1,065, exceeding the initial goal of $750. All eight student-athletes that signed up to participate will be getting a pie-in-the-face.
“We have a lot in store for the Prom this year,” said Sarah Patterson and Sarah Beth Brooke, Special Olympics at UGA Co-Presidents, “We are so excited about the participation of so many UGA athletes.”
