Georgia Softball Picked to Finish Fourth in the SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Georgia softball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference, according to a vote by the league’s 13 head coaches in the annual preseason poll. The Bulldogs return seven position starters and two pitchers from last season’s team that finished with a 40-21 overall record that included a 14-9 mark in SEC play. Georgia advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th-straight year, finishing as the runner-up in the Tempe Regional. 

The Bulldogs return an impressive regime that accounted for 82 of the 93 home runs hit last year and 325 of the 406 runs scored. Georgia also welcomes back one NFCA All-American, three Easton All-Americans, three All-Southeast Region selections, three SEC All-Freshman honorees and two First Team All-SEC selections. 

Florida was picked to win the 2014 Southeastern Conference title, receiving 10 first-place votes. Tennessee, which finished as the 2013 NCAA runner-up and is currently ranked preseason No. 1 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll, earned two first-place votes and was predicted to finish second in the SEC. Alabama, earned a first-place vote and is predicted to finish third in the SEC. 

The Bulldogs kick off their 2014 campaign on Friday, Feb. 7 when it takes on Winthrop at 3 p.m., at Jack Turner Stadium as part of the Red and Black Showcase.
