James "Tojo" Crawford Passes Away

ATHENS, Ga. --- James "Tojo" Crawford, an Athens fixture and employee of the UGA Athletic Association from the mid-1980s until his retirement in 2011, passed away on Sunday.
Crawford was born in Athens on May 9, 1951, and graduated from Burney Harris High School, where he served as a trainer for the basketball team. Crawford was active in the community, serving as president of the Classic City Golf Association, as an umpire for youth baseball and as a referee for youth football leagues in Athens.
Crawford worked for Poss Catering Company for more than 20 years before joining the UGA Athletic Association staff in the mid-80s. He served numerous roles for the Athletic Association but his primary duties were as manager of Sanford Stadium. Crawford retired on May 31, 2011.
Crawford is survived by his wife, Cynthia, as well as countless family and friends. Eberhart Funeral Home in Winder is in charge of services. There will be a visitation on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Eberhart Funeral Home at 131 King Street in Winder. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at White Oak Spring Baptist Church at 123 East New Street in Winder.
