georgiadogs.com Taking Short Vacation
July 01, 2013 | General
July 1, 2013
Beginning Monday, July 1 at 10 PM ET georgiadogs.com will endure a short vacation as CBS Interactive, which hosts the official athletic websites for many of NCAA's top websites including Georgia's and many of the SEC's universities, will be moving data centers from those hosted in Los Angeles to an IO facility in Phoenix.
Throughout the move, the Official Athletic Sites will remain visible. Presentation of, and access to, articles, audio/video (delivered outside the All-Access index), schedules, bios, rosters, ads, photos and graphics will not be interrupted. All live database-driven content will be unavailable for the duration of the move - that includes all stores and auction sites on the CBSI platform, and the backend admin sites associated with both systems. It will not be possible to manage site content until the move is complete. This downtime is a necessary and unavoidable component.
The downtime is expected to be completed within 48-72 hours. While the current information on the website will remain visable to all fans, no new information will be able to be posted during this time. As a result, the University of Georgia Athletics Association asks fans to monitor the official social media accounts at facebook (www.facebook.com/georgiabulldogs) and twitter (twitter.com/ugaathletics) for breaking news.
The Georgia Athletics Association wishes all our fans a safe and happy Independence Day.
Go America and Go Dogs!
Over the years, we've committed ourselves to creating, developing and maintaining the most stable technical infrastructure in the business, and our move into IO Phoenix further strengthens this commitment. We selected IO on the basis of the Phoenix location, the services in IO Phoenix, the enterprise-class physical infrastructure and deep operational experience. IO provides the staff, knowledge and experience required to operate an always-on data center. And for businesses looking for peace of mind that their IT environment is always-on, IO offers a 100% uptime SLA on key infrastructure elements, including power, cooling, fire detection and suppression, and access control. IO Phoenix, in addition to being located in an incredibly reliable location with abundant energy, is an energy-efficient data center that uses the latest technologies and systems to enhance reliability. Here are some specific benefits of this move, including efforts to be made by our IT staff in conjunction with this move to further improve our infrastructure:
- Very efficient data center layout, allowing use of 100% of the racks (~40-60% utilization in LA)
- 2x the power to every rack, allowing further condensation of gear
- Extensive use of Virtualization Technology, allowing for mission critical services to be tolerant to hardware failure
- We're building a full 10G network there to support 10G servers (10G servers -> 10G rack switch -> 40G connection to cores)
- We're building a load-balancer cluster so that we can sustain greater than 10G of traffic to any individual site
- Carrier-grade network appliances power our traffic through the facility
- No longer in a geologically unstable part of the country
- Produces even greater support coverage of partner sites
- New & modern server installation, including extensive use of automation to reduce human-induced mistakes
