ATHENS, Ga. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Capital One announced Thursday that Georgia right-side hitter Lauren Teknipp was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, one of five Southeastern Conference players named.

Teknipp becomes the first Georgia player since Kathleen Gates (2010) to earn a spot on the Academic All-District Team.

A junior from McDonough, Teknipp owns a 3.53 grade point average while majoring in journalism. She has appeared in all 24 matches and all 87 sets for the Bulldogs this season. Teknipp is third on the team in kills with 208 and is hitting at a .276 efficiency this season. She also has recorded 46 blocks on the year, including five solo stops.

The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® Teams, selected by the CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
