Game Notes | Georgia Softball Picked Up For Six TV Games

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 10/12 University of Georgia softball team kicks of its 2012 campaign this weekend, as it hosts the Fifth Annual Red and Black Showcase. The Bulldogs will welcome teams from NC State, Army, St. John's, Campbell and Utah State to Jack Turner Softball Stadium for the three-day tournament. Georgia will open its season against Army on Friday at 7 p.m.

Quick Notes

Georgia returns 11 players from a 22-player 2011 squad that finished 51-14 and advanced to a Super Regional, including four position starters and two pitchers.
The Bulldogs own a sterling 19-1 record in the five-year history of the Red and Black Showcase. Their only loss came at the hands of No. 8 DePaul on Feb. 9, 2008.
Georgia is 12-3 in season openers and 10-1 in the Lu Harris-Champer era. Under Harris-Champer, the only season-opening loss came in 2005, when the Bulldogs took No. 2 UCLA to extra innings before falling 4-3.
Georgia is ranked among the nation's best, coming in at 10th in the USA Today/NFCA preseason poll and 12th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
Harris-Champer is closing in on 800 career wins as a collegiate head coach. Harris-Champer, who surpassed 1,000 career games coached and 200 SEC wins last season, has 762 wins in her career.
