Georgia hosts Lady Bulldogs
No. 10 Georgia continues a stretch of four games in seven days when the Lady Bulldogs host S.C. State on Friday evening at Stegeman Coliseum. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m., and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a red 2012-13 Lady Bulldog schedule cup.
Georgia began its every-other-day schedule by defeating Presbyterian on Wednesday and also will host Belmont and Savannah State on Sunday and Tuesday, respectively.
Georgia is 2-0 on the young season and looking to continue to build on the newfound depth on this year's roster. In the victory over Presbyterian, nine Lady Bulldogs logged between 19 and 24 minutes played.
S.C. State opened its campaign with a 77-42 win over Claflin on Nov. 9. Sophomore Kourtney Williams exploded for 24 points in the rout.

Series history vs. the Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs are 8-1 all-time against S.C. State, including a 5-0 mark in Stegeman Coliseum.
Georgia is 25-1 all-time against teams currently competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference along with S.C. State.
Last season, Jasmine Jamesscored 17 points to lead four Georgia players in double figures in a 85-48 victory on Nov. 30. Georgia started the game with a dominant 16-0 run in the first 6:38 and never looked back.
Prior to that, UGA and SCSU hadn't met since the early stages of the Lady Bulldogs' 1996 NCAA runner-up campaign. La'Keshia Frettand Pam Irwin scored 16 points apiece to lead No. 10 Georgia to a 93-32 victory in a first-round matchup at the 1995 Carolinas Beach Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Last time out...
Jasmine Hassellscored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the No. 10 past Presbyterian, 66-38, on Wednesday evening.
Additional leaders for the Lady Bulldogs included a pair of freshmen - Merritt Hempe with 11 points, three steals and a team-high three blocks and Shacobia Barbeewith three assists and a team-high five steals.
Georgia started the game strong with a 9-3 run. Later in the opening half, Hassell sank a pair of free throws to spark an 8-0 run that put Georgia up 26-13 with four minutes left in the period.
The Lady Bulldogs began the second period in similar fashion as the first by outscoring Presbyterian 6-0 in the first two minutes.
Landers closing in on 800 at UGA
Andy Landersenters tonight's game just three victories shy of securing his 800th win at Georgia.
Landers first chance to reach the milestone could come next Tuesday against Savannah State. Ironically, Landers posted his 800th overall career win (including 82 victories at Roane State College from 1975-79) with a 74-28 decision over Savannah State on Jan. 15, 2009.
Landers' tally of "Ws" in Athens now warrants expansion from just women's hoops to NCAA Division I basketball overall. The Lady Bulldogs' first - and still only - full-time women's basketball head coach, Landers will soon become the eighth Division I coach - men's or women's - to secure 800 victories at a single school as outlined in the column below. Freshmen garnering PT
Georgia's freshman class played significant minutes in the Lady Bulldogs' first two outings.
In the season-opening win over Rutgers, Shacobia Barbee started and played 21 minutes, while Merritt Hempewas the first player off the Georgia bench at the 16:38 mark of the first half. Freshmen logged 49 total minutes of playing time against the Scarlet Knights.
That tally jumped considerably against Presbyterian, when freshmen accounted for 98 (of 200) MP.
All told, freshmen can claim 36.8 percent of the Lady Bulldogs' total playing time in those contests.
"We have a freshman class that's going to be able to help us; there's no question about that," Landers said following the season opener against Rutgers. "You saw glimpses of that today. They'll grow and mature as we move along and in another month or so they'll look totally different than today."
Injury ends Jones' career
Ebony Joneswill not play during 2012-13 due to recurring issues with the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in her left knee. The senior played in only one game (at Mercer) last season after injuring her knee during the preseason.
For her career, Jones, played in 36 games, including one start as a sophomore, and averaged 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.
Freshman starter sorority grows
Andy Landers' penchant for putting freshmen into the Lady Bulldogs' starting five continued against Rutgers.
Shacobia Barbeebecame the 70th freshman to start for Georgia during Landers' 34 seasons in Athens...and the 22nd who got the nod for her collegiate debut.
Landers announced Barbee's starting status at a preseason reception with courtside seat holders on Nov. 7.
"Shacobia has been very impressive throughout the fall," Landers said. "She's earned the confidence of her coaches and her teammates, and I suspect she'll do very well."
