UGA Announces 2012-13 Ramsey Scholarship Recipients

ATHENS, Ga. --- Ten University of Georgia student-athletes have been named recipients of the 2012-13 Ramsey Scholarship for Academic & Athletic Excellence.

This year's recipients are Noel Couch, Towaco, N.J., Gymnastics; Jenny Freeman, Canton, Ga., Equestrian; Andrew Gemmell, Wilmington, Del., Swimming & Diving; Kristie Krueger, Argyle, Texas, Cross Country; Brandon Lord, Chattanooga, Tenn., Track & Field; Lucie Ondraschkova, Opava, Czech Republic, Track & Field; Maria Salazar, Portland, Ore., Equestrian; Kate Skoglund, Tualatin, Ore., Equestrian; Ali Sullivan, Wilton, Conn., Equestrian; and Shayla Worley, Orlando, Fla., Gymnastics.

"We are very proud of this year's Ramsey Scholars because they have demonstrated their commitment to balancing academics and athletics at a very high level," said Executive Associate Athletic Director Carla Williams. "A Ramsey Scholar represents the best of college athletics - student-athletes achieving excellence in their sport and in the classroom."

The Bernard B. Ramsey Scholarships for Academic and Athletic Excellence Fund was established in 1997. The purpose of the Fund is to endow 10 scholarships for student-athletes at the University of Georgia. To be eligible for the Ramsey Scholarship, student-athletes must have one of the top 10 cumulative GPAs of all student-athletes, lettered at least one year on his/her team and a GPS of 3.50 or higher. Preference is given to student-athletes who are entering their senior year, however if no seniors meet the criteria, then preference would be given to those entering their junior year.
